Material guide: Outdoor benches
Not every piece of furniture is suitable for outdoor use: Materials for outdoor furniture must have certain properties in order to meet the requirements for outdoor use.
Solid wood
As solid wood is a natural material, different grains and knots may be visible. Each piece of solid wood furniture is therefore unique.
Advantages: Stable, robust and durable! Large selection of wood types and natural or colored surface treatments! Easy to clean!
Care instructions: Wipe with a damp, soft cloth. Dry quickly. Please note: Some types of wood can change color over time under the influence of UV rays.
Steel
Very robust metal that can be coated using various surface processes. For outdoor use, the surface must be galvanized before powder coating. This provides adequate protection against corrosion. There are different quality levels for stainless steel, which are suitable for outdoor use and which are not.
Advantages: Very stable and durable! Very low-maintenance and easy to clean!
Care instructions: Clean occasionally with water and mild soap and dry quickly.

Quality standards for VEGA furniture
Catering furniture has to withstand a lot in everyday use! Our furniture quality standards ensure problem-free use for the catering industry. Only furniture that meets these standards is included in our range:
- Selection of materials: The materials used in our furniture undergo rigorous testing to meet the tough requirements of the catering industry. They are tested in the test laboratory for various situations in everyday catering.
- Safety against tipping: We test all our seating furniture for safety against tipping in accordance with the EN 1022 standard. Here, the seating furniture is subjected to a specific load on the backrest. The object must not tip over.
- Load capacity: The maximum load capacity of our seating furniture is 160 kg per seat. In long-term tests, we ensure that the furniture can withstand this load permanently.
- Fire protection: Our upholstered furniture meets the most important European fire protection standards required for hotel and restaurant furnishings. This greatly minimizes the fire risk for furniture.
- Durability: All our seating furniture is tested for durability in accordance with the EN 1728 standard. The seat and backrest must withstand 100,000 load cycles. This means that up to five years of use in the catering industry is simulated in the test laboratory in 8 days.
- Service life: Our seating furniture is very durable and lasts for many years with average use. This long service life is simulated and tested in the test laboratory.
Outdoor catering
Design
As soon as the first rays of sunshine arrive and the temperatures become milder, many restaurateurs expand their store space and serve guests outdoors. A few practical aspects should be considered when designing the outdoor area:
- Which substrate for the outdoor area? (e.g. gravel floor or stone terrace)
- What furniture - chairs, benches or bar tables? (e.g. outdoor serving trolley for shorter distances)
- What equipment do you need? (e.g. privacy screens, sunshades or radiant heaters)

Regulations
Before caterers take their tables and chairs outside, a number of regulations and requirements should be observed. Permits are required for both public and private properties. Find out from us which regulations you need to observe.
Another important part is the Immission Control Act. In the important environmental protection ordinance, the federal government stipulates that immissions and emissions such as noise, air pollution, vibrations and the like must remain within certain limits. Noise protection, air pollution control and light immissions are particularly important for outdoor catering.
